Spain’s Mahou San Miguel has entered the energy drinks category with the launch of Refeel in its home country.
The Madrid-headquartered company, known for its beer portfolio, said the latest release will be available via foodservice, home delivery platforms and at “Mahou San Miguel stores” from September. The canned beverage (below) comes in a mango and pineapple flavour and includes plant-based caffeine, according to the brand owner.
The size of the can was not immediately available but Mahou San Miguel described Refeel as “100% natural” and as having less than 20 calories per 10cl.
It added that the energy-drinks market is “one of the fastest-growing both in Spain and abroad”.
Back in April, Heineken also made a play in the energy drinks sector when it purchased an unspecified size minority stake in the Tenzing brand.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, Californian wine stalwart O’Neill Vintners & Distillers lined up the launch of its own energy drinks brand in the US.
