Heineken has expanded its tie-up with electric freight technology company Einride to include Austria.
The first wave of Austrian routes, connecting the Göss and Puntigam breweries with Heineken’s ‘Hub Süd’ logistics centre in Wundschuh, and sales and partner warehouses across southern Austria, is now operating entirely on electric power. Heineken first collaborated with Einride last year with the launch of cross-border electric road freight operations between the Netherlands and Germany.
The company is using eight electric trucks in Austria, averaging 20 deliveries per day, and plans to utilise 20 more vehicles by the end of the year.
Heineken said the trucks are estimated to save around 400 tonnes of CO2 over approximately 378,000 kilometres a year. In the coming months, the group will add further routes across Vienna, Upper Austria, Lower Austria and Styria.
“With Einride, we have a competent partner at our side to take a step forward in the field of electric mobility,” said the supply chain director at Heineken’s Austrian unit, Harald Raidl. “In order to advance our goal of reducing emissions in logistics, we are focusing on a variety of measures so that in the future we can use the right drive in more areas … .”
The brewing major launched its first global GenAI laboratory in Singapore earlier this month in a move designed to improve “growth, productivity and customer engagement”.
