Henkell Freixenet has added two French sparkling wines to its namesake Spanish cava brand.

Freixenet Brut Royal and Rosé Royal have just started rolling out to the UK at an SRP of GBP13 (US$16.50) each. The wines, which are both made with chardonnay and colombard grapes grown in the southwest of France, will also launch in Brazil next month, priced at BRL110 ($19.50).

Originally launched in 1911 in Catalonia, Spain, Freixenet is traditionally known for being one of the biggest Spanish cava producers, but in 2017 the brand introduced a premium Italian prosecco line extension. SIx years ago, the business was acquired by Germany’s Henkell to form the largest sparkling wine groups in the world.

In an exclusive Global Drinks Intel interview last year, group CEO Andreas Brokemper predicted French crémant would be the next big growth category for the sparkling wine sector.
