The US division of AB InBev has lined up a US$17m spend on its facility in Houston, Texas, as part of the unit’s ongoing investment plan.

The funding, announced this week, will target improvements to the transportation capabilities around the site. Global Drinks Intel has contacted Anheuser-Busch for details about whether any jobs will created as a result of the financing.

Earlier this year, AB InBev unveiled ‘Brewing Futures’, an initiative comprising $300m for its US manufacturing operations.

Anheuser-Busch employs around 1,100 people in Texas across four facilities. The latest spend notwithstanding, the division has invested around $50m in the Houston brewery over the last three years.

“This investment in Houston is the latest example of Anheuser-Busch’s commitment to strengthen our local communities by creating and sustaining jobs and driving economic growth,” said unit CEO Brendan Whitworth.

In March, the US division announced a cash injection of $4.2m into its brewery in Williamsburg, Virginia to “drive local economic growth”. Prior to that, the AB said it would up the production capacity at its Los Angeles facility through a $16m investment.
