The US division of Anheuser-Busch InBev has announced an injection of US$4.2m into its brewery in Williamsburg, Virginia to “drive local economic growth”.

The facility, which has been operating since 1972, will receive equipment upgrades “to maximise efficiency in the brewing process”, Anheuser-Busch said earlier this week. The funding will help “create and sustain” jobs in the US beer industry, and follows a $6.5m investment in the site last year.

The US unit of the brewing giant employs around 750 people across five facilities in Virginia and claims to have made more than $1.1bn in capital investments in its operations in the US state.

“Investing in the American communities where our people live and work is part of who we are,” said Anheuser-Busch CEO, Brendan Whitworth. “We’ve been producing high-quality American-made products for generations, and through our continued investments in places like Williamsburg, we are continuing drive economic prosperity and create opportunity in American manufacturing.”

Last year, the business revealed it would up the production capacity at its brewery in Los Angeles thanks to a $16m investment.

AB InBev recently posted a positive set of results for its Q4, as sales grew 3.4% to US$14.84bn. For the full year, the top line increased 2.7% to $59.77bn.
