- Sales in three months to end of September decline 11.2% to US$537.5m
- Year-to-date sales down by 1.9% – $1.58bn
- Third quarter undoes H1’s 3.6% increase
A particularly tough third quarter has reversed The Boston Beer Co’s sales growth in 2025 so far, with the company’s year-to-date subsequently turning negative.
The group, which owns the Samuel Adams beer and Truly RTD brands, reported this week that its sales from the three months to the end of September tumbled by just over 11% on the corresponding period in 2024. The slide followed two consecutive quarters of top-line rises that combined had put Boston Beer at +3.6% for the first half.
For the nine months of the year so far, however, total sales were down by almost 2%.
In the three-month period, both Sam Adams and Truly registered declining volumes – specific figures were not disclosed – along with the Twisted Tea alcoholic iced tea brand. Pulling in the right direction meanwhile, were RTD Sun Cruiser and hard (meaning ‘alcoholic’) cider Angry Orchard. The quarterly volume struggles were offset in part by “increased pricing and favourable product mix”.
Despite the weak showing, CFO Diego Reynoso was sanguine about the performance. “As expected,” he said, “our shipments during the third quarter rebalanced relative to our depletions, which negatively impacted third quarter shipments and revenue.”
Earlier this week, chief supply chain officer Phil Hodge was promoted by Boston Beer to the newly-created position of COO.
