Rémy Cointreau has appointed Gruppo Montenegro as the distributor for 12 of its brands in Italy.

Starting next month, brands including Cointreau, The Botanist and Rémy Martin will be handled by the Italian drinks company as their “exclusive distributor”. The other brands that will sit in Gruppo Montenegro’s remit are Champagne Telmont, Louis XIII, Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte, Octomore, Mount Gay, Metaxa, Bellede Brillet and St Rémy.

The Italian company, which acquired Venezuelan rum brand Pampero from Diageo last year, said the move will help “further consolidate its presence in the Italian spirits market” and grow a “stronger presence in the premium market”. Gruppo Montenegro also handles distribution in the country for brands in Brown-Forman and Proximo Spirits’ portfolios.

Global Drinks Intel has contacted Rémy Cointreau to ascertain who its previous distributor was in Italy.

Rémy Cointreau’s ‘EMEA’ & ‘APAC’ head, Ian McLernon, said via LinkedIn today (4 March): “We look forward to building our portfolio over the longer term and growing fast in this key European market.”

Last month, Rémy Cointreau lined up the launch of four limited-edition packs for Rémy Martin’s VSOP expression that “pay homage” to selected cities in the US.

Meanwhile, the brand owner also said in February that it expects its full-year sales for fiscal 2025 to finish down by almost 20% after another disappointing quarter to the end of December.

‘We might not be the biggest brand owner, but we want to be the most exciting’ – Rémy Cointreau’s global travel retail CEO Fida Bou Chabke speaks to Global Drinks Intel
