Diageo is looking to put its senior executives to the test on sustainability matters, teaming with Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford on a training programme.
The arrangement will comprise a 12-week course that is mandatory for the brand owner’s “top 600 leaders”. Among the areas covered are ‘responding to climate change, ‘natural capital & resource management’ and ‘social sustainability’.
Diageo claims to be “one of the first companies to combine its industry experience of sustainability with the perspective of a world-class business school”.
The compulsory programme will apply across the group’s global operations.
“Responsibility for delivering our … ‘Society 2030: Spirit of Progress’ ESG action plan lies with every leader within Diageo,” said director of society Kate Gibson. “We want to make sure that everyone understands both the theoretical and the practical ways in which they can make a difference, to the company, the environment and to communities around the world.”
Last month, Diageo rival Pernod Ricard commenced the phasing out of gift boxes for its Jameson Irish whiskey brand.
