Peio Arbeloa has become the interim deputy GM at Mahou San Miguel and is set to become the  Spanish brewer’s director general in the “coming months”.

Arbeloa (below, right) has been with the Madrid-headquartered group for the last 15 years, most recently as its director general de negocios – or chief business officer. He will spend the next eight months in the transitioning role, “listening, learning and working together” with incumbent director general Alberto Rodríguez-Toquero (below, left).

Arbeloa joined Mahou San Miguel in 2011 as director general of the company’s combined water, soft drinks & coffee unit. He worked his way up to deputy commercial director, then head of the company’s domestic business division, and finally chief business officer, before his promotion to ‘sub-director general’ this month.

Announcing the move on LinkedIn, Arbeloa said: “After 15 years in the company, it is a privilege to continue building this project with all the teams, supporting us on a very solid foundation and with many opportunities ahead.

“In the coming months, I will be very close to the business and to all of us who make up this great company, listening, learning and working together with Alberto Rodríguez-Toquero in the transition to the general management of Mahou San Miguel.”

The San Miguel brand owner added: “This movement is part of a transition process that we have been working on for some time, with a clear vision of the future and with the aim of continuing to strengthen our project.

“Peio Arbeloa, until now the GM of business, will assume this new responsibility at a key moment for the company, in which we have a very solid base and with important opportunities ahead in an environment in transformation.”

Last year, Mahou San Miguel expanded into energy drinks with the launch of Refeel in its home country.
