The deals will increase the group’s global contracted PPA coverage from around 10% to 21%.

Carlsberg has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) to increase the share of renewable electricity used across its Nordic operations.

The contracts, which begin in 2026, will supply the group’s breweries in Norway, Sweden and Finland with power from newly built hydro and wind assets. They will increase the group’s global contracted PPA coverage from around 10% to 21%, the company said, without disclosing financial details of the partnerships.

In Norway, Carlsberg’s business Ringnes will source 435GWh of hydroelectricity over ten years from Å Energi’s Fennefoss plant, ultimately covering about 90% of the brewery’s consumption. Carlsberg Sverige in Sweden has secured an eight-year agreement for output from RWE’s Orken wind farm, expected to meet roughly 78% of its electricity needs. In Finland, Carlsberg’s Sinebrychoff brewery (below) will purchase power from Encavis’ Paltusmäki wind farm under a ten-year contract covering about 90% of local usage.

“The new PPAs across the Nordics allow us to accelerate the green transition and support the development of additional renewable energy capacity,” said Carlsberg’s EVP of integrated supply chain, Torsten Steenholt. “The three new agreements complement our existing PPAs in for example Lithuania, Denmark and China.”

In April, Carlsberg unveiled a limited-edition, alcohol-free beer in Sweden that has been transported entirely by electric-powered freight.
