Asahi Group Holdings has reported a partial recovery in its beer business following the ransomware attack that disrupted its operations at the end of September.
According to preliminary figures released earlier this week, Asahi Breweries’ October sales returned to “over 90% (of the same sales) year-on-year”, after shipments of the unit’s core brands – including flagship Asahi Super Dry – resumed on 2 October. The company said around 80% of its normal product portfolio was back in circulation by the end of the month.
September’s revenues also came in “slightly above” the levels recorded 12 months earlier, despite the brewing shutdown, as the Tokyo-headquartered group continued to manage order-taking and logistics manually.
Asahi said it will release full sales performance figures once its systems are fully restored.
Operations at several of its production facilities in Japan have already restarted following the cyberattack two months ago, although Asahi has admitted a full recovery was still some way off. The group first detected the ransomware incident at the end of September, with the attack forcing a shutdown of order placement, shipment and customer service systems across its domestic network.
