Italian spirits producer Luxardo is looking towards the next chapter of its family legacy as the independent business continues to build on more than 200 years of heritage while embracing new perspectives and international opportunities.
Founded in 1821, Luxardo has remained family-owned for generations, developing a globally recognised portfolio that includes its iconic Maraschino Originale, alongside bitters, amari, aperitifs and traditional Italian liqueurs.
As the company continues to develop its portfolio and strengthen its international presence, the family remains committed to preserving the values and craftsmanship that have defined the Luxardo name for more than two centuries.
That commitment to the future is reflected in 18-year-old Matilde Luxardo (above, centre right), daughter of Matteo Luxardo (above, far right), who will move to Stockholm in 2027 to study Business and Management at university.
While Matilde has yet to decide whether her career will take her into the spirits industry, her decision to study abroad reflects the family’s belief in the importance of independence, education and gaining experience beyond the family business.
“I believe it is important for the next generation to gain their own experience and perspective,” said Matteo Luxardo.
“Studying and living abroad will give Matilde the chance to do that before deciding what she would like to do in the future.”
For Luxardo, maintaining its position as an independent, family-owned producer means balancing tradition with innovation and ensuring that future generations have the opportunity to bring fresh ideas and international experience to the business.
As the company looks ahead to 2027, its focus remains on developing its portfolio, strengthening relationships across international markets and building on the reputation established by successive generations of the Luxardo family.
For Matteo, the possibility of Matilde one day becoming involved in the company is a particularly meaningful prospect.
“Seeing Matilde consider a future with Luxardo would make me very proud. At the same time, I want her to follow her own path and make that choice for herself.
“Whatever she decides, I hope the experience she gains in Oslo will help her grow, discover what she loves and, one day, bring a fresh perspective to the family business.”
With its heritage firmly rooted in Italy and its ambitions extending across international markets, Luxardo continues to demonstrate how a family-owned spirits business can honour its past while looking confidently towards the future.
