Les Grands Chais de France (GCF) has unveiled a new bottle and label design for German wine brand Blue Nun in the UK.

Alongside the refreshed look, unveiled this week, the French wine group said it is in the process of “reintroducing” Blue Nun to the UK market with wider distribution and “a renewed focus on making wine more approachable for today’s consumers”. Two SKUs, the renamed Blue Nun Authentic White (previously Liebfraumilch) and a riesling, are now available through e-commerce websites Ocado and Drink Supermarket, with “further distribution planned”.

Global Drinks Intel has asked GCF whether the pack will be rolled out to the brand’s other international markets.

GCF acquired the owner of Blue Nun, German wine company Franz Wilhelm Langguth Erben, in 2024.

The JP Chenet and Calvet brand owner said the push comes “as consumer demand continues to shift towards approachable, fruit-forward wines, lower-alcohol styles and more relaxed drinking occasions”. Blue Nun Authentic White carries an ABV of 10% while the Riesling is 9% ABV.

“Blue Nun is one of the great success stories in the wine industry because it introduced millions of people around the world to German wine,” said GCF’s UK marketing manager, Henry Colyer. “We share the belief that wine should be welcoming, enjoyable and easy to discover. We’re proud to be bringing Blue Nun back to UK consumers and to introduce a new generation of drinkers to this iconic brand.”

Drink Supermarket marketing manager Jital Rao added: “Blue Nun is a brand that instantly resonates with UK consumers, so stocking the refreshed range was an easy decision for us. We’ve seen a fantastic response since launch, with strong early sales that reflect both the brand’s heritage and its renewed appeal.”

In July, GCF launched the first “nationwide” billboard campaign in the UK for its Nozeco non-alcoholic wine brand.
