Allied Blenders & Distillers (ABD) has confirmed an in-market production arrangement for the Blue expression of its Officer’s Choice whisky flagship as the Indian company commences operations in Malaysia.

As part of the agreement, which is the company’s first overseas local production deal, ABD will hand the distillation and distribution of Officer’s Choice Blue in Malaysia to an unnamed “established local partner”. Officer’s Choice Blue will be available in 9cl, 18cl and 75cl formats “to address diverse consumer occasions and price points”, ABD added.

Moving forward, the company said it plans to undertake a “phased introduction” of additional brands in the market, “in line with market response and route-to-market readiness”. Mumbai-headquartered ABD is also looking into “similar asset-light local production partnerships across select international markets, based on market opportunities and strategic fit”.

“The Malaysia initiative is aligned with ABD’s international strategy of maintaining leadership in core export markets, expanding distribution in Africa, building presence in South-East Asia,” the group said in a statement. “The model enables faster market participation with limited capital deployment, while ABD continues to retain control over raw materials, packaging inputs, quality standards and brand stewardship.”

ABD’s portfolio, exported to 39 markets, also includes Iconiq White Whisky, Sterling Reserve and Woodburns. Officer’s Choice Blue is a blend of scotch and Indian whisky, and is the ‘premium’ extension of the brand’s standard IMFL iteration, Officer’s Choice.

“ABD’s international business is being built on a disciplined, asset-light model that combines market expansion with capital efficiency,” said MD Amar Sinha. “Local production in Malaysia is an important milestone in this journey.

“Officer’s Choice Blue offers a compelling proposition for consumers, while local manufacturing enhances our ability to serve the market with greater agility and efficiency. We will continue to strengthen our export footprint, deepen distribution in priority  international markets and scale our portfolio in a measured, profitable manner.”

Also this week, Indian distiller Tilaknagar Industries launched a marketing campaign in the US for Mansion House Brandy and Monarch Legacy Edition Pure Grape Brandy.
