Constellation Brands has reopened California’s Oakville Estate to visitors following a three-year “multi-million-dollar” upgrade.
The estate, which produces wine for the group’s Robert Mondavi brand as well as Schrader Cellars and To Kalon Vineyard Co, has upgraded its production facilities and restaurant while also adding some new visitor experiences. The changes mark the “most substantial [investment in the site] since 1966”, Constellation said.
Oakville Estate’s expanded hospitality offering now includes “a suite of bookable experiences” such as private vineyard tours, tastings and food & wine pairings, ranging in cost from US$60 to $180.
Constellation is also releasing a limited-edition 2023 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (below) with an SRP of GBP120 ($163) to celebrate the site’s 60th anniversary this year. The wine will be available in the UK via Berry Bros & Rudd from next month.
“The reopening underscores Robert Mondavi Winery’s continued investment in luxury positioning, sustainable viticulture, and long-term relevance in the global fine-wine market,” Constellation said.
The news follows last week’s announcement of the closure of Constellation’s Quarry Lake winery in Sonoma, which previously produced wine for The Prisoner Wine Co and Robert Mondavi labels. A spokesperson told Global Drinks Intel the move aimed “to support our restructured portfolio of higher-end brands”.
In its latest fiscal year, the group booked a 4% decline in sales, ending the 12-month period with a flat top-line performance in Q4.
