Los Angeles-based Casa Azul Spirits has promoted internally to fill the newly created post of president following the recent departure of CEO Dennis Carr.
The privately owned company, which owns the tequila brand of the same name, said earlier today (14 April) that CFO Paul Stacey will assume the position of president. Stacey (below) had joined as CFO in late 2024, according to Casa Azul, although his LinkedIn profile states he’s been the company’s president since joining from Advanced Nutrients 18 months ago.
The appointment comes about two months after former Gallo executive Dennis Carr quit Casa Azul for Cobblestone Brands, which acquired the Clontarf and Knappogue Castle Irish whiskey brands from Pernod Ricard in July last year. Carr started with the tequila brand owner in early 2024 but has moved to Cobblestone to be the president of its US operations.
When contacted by Global Drinks Intel, a company spokesperson said that Casa Azul “does not currently have a CEO”.
“Paul has played a critical role in shaping the company’s financial framework, strengthening organisational efficiency and supporting the brand’s rapid expansion,” Casa Azul said. “His leadership has helped scale the business while bringing greater discipline and focus to both operations and long–term strategy.
“As president, Paul will oversee day–to–day company operations and continue to accelerate brand reach, build market presence and further solidify Casa Azul Orgánico as a leader in the premium tequila category.”
Two months ago, authorities in Mexico arrested the mayor of Tequila in an anti-corruption sting over the alleged extortion of distillers of the town’s namesake spirit.
