Gallo is closing The Ranch Winery in California and laying off workers across four other sites in the state.
The US wine giant said the permanent closure of its St Helena-based winery plus the other redundancies would result in a combined 93 job losses, including winemakers, cellar and hospitality staff. The redundancies will take place between 15 April and the end of January next year, according to a Worker Adjustment & Retraining Notification.

As well as the closure of The Ranch Winery, the Barefoot wine brand owner is making redundancies at its Louis M Martini Winery and Orin Swift Tasting Room in St Helena, as well as the Frei Ranch vineyard and J Vineyards & Winery in Healdsburg (below).
This week’s developments follow last year’s shuttering by Gallo of Courtside Cellars in San Luis Obispo County, which the family-owned group had purchased in 2012. Two years ago, the company offloaded two other Central Coast sites: its Edna Valley facility in San Luis Obispo and the Wild Horse winery in Templeton.
