US wine giant Gallo is set to shut down a winery in California, affecting 47 jobs.

The company said it will close Courtside Cellars in San Luis Obispo County on 8 September, according to a recent Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification. The layoffs impact all employees of Gallo’s Courtside Cellars, a 300,000-square-foot production facility.

Gallo, headquartered in Modesto, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. It purchased Courtside Cellars back in 2012 for an undisclosed fee. At the time, the purchase included 34 acres of land and a winery capable of crushing 60,000 tonnes of grapes.

Last year, the company offloaded two other Central Coast sites: its Edna Valley facility in San Luis Obispo and the Wild Horse winery in Templeton.

In June, US distributing major RNDC revealed that it would shutter operations in California following a recent brace of sizable distribution moves in the state.
