Carlsberg has unveiled a limited-edition, alcohol-free beer in Sweden that has been transported entirely by electric-powered freight.
‘Electric Beer’ comes as a result of Carlsberg’s partnership with transport company Einride that began in 2022 and will roll out to Sweden later this year. The fresh release, which is available to Swedish consumers, is made using “100% renewable energy and is moved and packed by autonomous and electric conveyor belts, forklifts and packing robots”.
By the end of 2025, Carlsberg said Einride’s AI-powered technology will power between 35% and 40% of its freight operations in the southern and western parts of Sweden.
“We are pleased with our partnership with Einride and the progress we are making together in sustainable logistics,” said Carlsberg Sweden MD Peter Hammarstedt. “At Carlsberg Sverige, we continuously work to take concrete steps toward a more sustainable operation. Increasing the use of electric vehicles in our transport chain is one example of this.
“We hope this will spark interest in the importance of sustainable and smart logistics – and inspire others to take action in their own industries.”
The news follows Carlsberg’s competitor, Heineken, expanding its tie-up with Einride last month, as the first wave of its Austrian routes are now operating solely on electric power.
