Moët Hennessy has partnered with Beyoncé Knowles-Carter for a new-to-market American whiskey named after the US singer’s great-grandfather.
The group, which owns the Woodinville Whiskey Co business in Washington state, has launched SirDavis worldwide this week. Comprising a mash bill of 51% rye and 49% malted barley, the no-age-statemented expression, which has an ABV of 44%, is finished (in ex-sherry casks for an unspecified period), blended and bottled in the singer’s home state of Texas.
When contacted by Global Drinks Intel, a spokesperson for Moët Hennessy declined to share details about where the whisky is produced.
Initially available in the US and UK off-premise channels, along with selected airports in the former, a wider roll-out to retailers in Paris in Tokyo has been lined up for next month. SirDavis will retail for US$89 in the US and GBP79 (US$102.50) in the UK.
“This unique product was years in the making after Knowles-Carter, a Japanese whisky enthusiast, sought out Moët Hennessy to help craft a one-of-a-kind flavour profile that reflected her whisky ideal,” the company said. “Meanwhile, Moët Hennessy had been exploring ways to deepen its presence in the American whisky market … .”
The spokesperson added: “At SirDavis, we’re not always conventional when it comes to whisky norms, starting with our unique spelling of ‘whisky.’ Our signature mash bill and its uniquely high barley content with a sherry cask finish draws inspiration from global whisky styles such as Japanese and Scottish whiskies, both known for omitting the ‘e’ in whisky.”
In results for the six months to the end of June, reported late last month, Moët Hennessy’s ‘cognac & spirits’ operations came in down 10% on the corresponding half-year in 2023.
