Rémy Cointreau is looking to counter the ongoing challenge facing the Cognac category in the US by revising the marketing position for Rémy Martin's VSOP expression in the country.
Late last month, the group booked a 22.2% decline in sales from the six months to the end of September. Sales from the Cognac division performed even worse, down by 30% year-on-year with the US suffering from "tougher market conditions" exacerbated by both destocking at the distribution level due to higher interest rates as well as "persistent market promotions".
