Griffo Distillery has assumed new ownership after private equity group MGD Acquisition bought the Californian craft spirits producer.
The transaction, for an undisclosed sum, was announced earlier this month with co-founders Jenny and Michael Griffo set to remain with the Sonoma County-based business. MGD, which operates out of Hawaii, said it has conducted the purchase to “scale Griffo Distillery’s presence in the [US] market”.
“Our shared commitment to quality and involvement in the community align perfectly,” said incoming CEO Will Maroun. “This collaboration will empower Griffo Distillery to flourish while staying true to its heritage and the successful business that Michael and Jenny Griffo have built.”
Commencing operations in 2015, the namesake Griffo portfolio features a vodka and cold brew coffee liqueur alongside the Scott Street gin and Stony Point American whiskey expressions. The whiskey carries an online SRP of US$45.65 per 75cl bottle.
Almost exactly a year, Diageo completed a similar acquisition in Texas, completing the takeover of Balcones Distilling.
