The spot for the Caribbean-sourced blended rum, which debuted in 2010, will run from next month in Australia and the UK. Filmed in Hungary, the clip centres around a CGI-generated ‘Kraken’, which is a mythological representation of a giant octopus originating from Scandinavian folklore dating back to the 18th Century.

“Our aim was to give meaning to what our black spiced rum was and showcase The Kraken’s bold and fearless personality and attitude, said Proximo’s marketing director, Michael Cockram.

Financial details about the activity were not disclosed.

In results from the three months to the end of June, Proximo, whose flagship brand is the Jose Cuervo tequila giant, booked a 7% year-on-year lift in sales, although the performance was behind the near-13% growth rate recorded in the first quarter of 2023.

“It took some time to find our space in the culture of a tequila-led company” – Global Drinks Intel speaks to Bushmills brand director Donagh McHenry and Proximo Spirits marketing director Michael Cockram
