New York-based tequila and mezcal brand owner Lobos 1707 has appointed a former executive from Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits to be its president & chief operating officer.
Carlos Vigil has left Southern Glazer’s after almost 14 years to assume the two positions. Having started as COO in April, he has also taken on the presidency, which has coincided with the “transition” of Lobos 1707’s current CEO, Dia Simms, to become its chair of the board.
When contacted by Global Drinks Intel, a spokesperson for the company said Vigil will not replace Simms directly, having been named the “standing” president. Vigil started with Southern Glazer’s as director of strategy & business development in 2009, rising to become GM of digital sales & marketing in June 2021.
Simms, who has been with the company since it was founded in 2020, is also one of the co-founders of Pronghorn, a diversity-focused investment business that has a partnership arrangement with Diageo in North America.
Earlier this month, Tennessee-based Ole Smoky Distillery acquired Tanteo Spirits, which owns the namesake spice-infused Tequila portfolio.
