Cathy Lewenberg has been appointed CEO of alcohol e-commerce operator Drizly, marking the end of Cory Rellas’ tenure at the top.
The development, confirmed by Lewenberg on her LinkedIn profile today, comes almost three months after the Federal Trade Commission held Rellas responsible for a data breach in which “a malicious actor [was able] to access Drizly’s consumer database and steal information relating to 2.5m consumers”. Global Drinks Intel understands that Rellas has joined parent company Uber Technologies as its global head of beverage alcohol.
Lewenberg, who spent three months as an intern with Diageo earlier in her career, joined Drizly in May 2020 as COO, a post formerly held by Rellas after he co-founded the company in 2012.
Two years ago, the business was bought by Uber for US$1.1bn.

“After building the infrastructure for e-commerce at Drizly and paving the way for on-demand alcohol delivery at scale, we’re excited for everything Cory will bring to Uber and are thrilled for Cathy to be stepping in to lead Drizly into our next chapter,” a Drizly spokesperson said.
Speaking exclusively to Global Drinks Intel last year, Lewenberg said: “What got us really excited [about the Uber acquisition] is that they have millions of customers actively involved, so that’ll give us better reach and greater delivery technology.”
