The founder of California-based WX Brands is handing on the reins after 23 years.

Peter Byck, who has been CEO of the wine company since it started in 1999, will make way at the start of next year for Oliver Colvin. The internal promotion sees Colvin move up after a decade as COO.

Colvin, who joined WX when it was known as Winery Exchange in 2000, will still have Byck to call on, as a “senior advisor” to the board.

The switch comes 15 months after Argentina’s Bemberg Family Group acquired majority control of WX.

As well as its own wine brands, the company also sources wine for multiple retailers’ private-label offerings. WX sits alongside Grupo Peñaflor, one of the largest producers in Argentina, which was bought by Bemberg 12 years ago.
