Chile’s Viña Concha y Toro has made its first foray into alcohol-free wine with the launch of Casillero del Diablo Zero in the UK.
The fresh release (below) is a “gently dealcoholised” 0% ABV sparkling wine made from 100% chardonnay grapes, with aper-bottle SRP of GBP6 (US$8). The wine giant said that following “extensive trials”, it has produced a non-alcoholic sparkling wine that “meets the quality and drinkability standards that wine lovers expect from Casillero del Diablo”.
Concha y Toro said the iteration has been created in response to “growing consumer demand” for moderation options. Casillero del Diablo Zero is available via “several” UK wholesalers, independent retailers and will hit shelves in off-premise multiple Sainsbury’s next month.
“Almost two thirds of British adults either limit their alcohol consumption, or do not drink alcohol,” said the group’s UK brands controller, Claire Raine. “These trends are being led primarily by younger adults, and we want to make sure we stay relevant and important to everyone.
“Consumers are now getting used to seeing no/low options from their favourite drinks brands.”
In March, the CEO of Concha y Toro expressed an interest in inorganic growth drivers, including mergers and acquisitions, for the group in the near term.
In its results for calendar 2024, the company saw its sales jump by 14.5%, albeit on reported terms, with Casillero climbing by just under 20% in value terms.
