US wine group Ste Michelle Wine Estates is set to celebrate its first anniversary of new ownership with an acquisition of its own, in Oregon.
The company, which has around 30,000 acres of vineyards in California, Oregon and Washington, confirmed the purchase of A to Z Wineworks late last week. The transaction, for an undisclosed sum, comes just over 11 months after New York-based private equity group Sycamore Partners bought St Michelle from Altria Group.
Twenty-year-old A to Z, which has a namesake brand across several varietals that retails at around US$17 per bottle, will be joined by CEO Amy Prosenjak on the move to Ste Michelle. Prosenjak will become president of the ‘Oregon Brands’ division.
