Seattle-based Precept Wine & Spirits has completed an acquisition in California, purchasing almost all of Miller Family Wine Co in Santa Barbara.
The transaction, announced late last week, sees Miller Family’s range of brands, led by the Butternut, Hand on Heart, Ballard Lane and J Wilkes marks, come under Precept’s ownership. Also included is the family’s “substantial” private-label business, although the Bien Nacido (in Santa Maria Valley) and French Camp (in Paso Robles) vineyards do not feature in the sale.
Financial details were not disclosed by either party.
“The Miller Family Wine Co represents generations of craftmanship and quality, and we are honoured to carry that legacy forward,” said Precept CEO Andrew Browne. “The brand portfolio is a natural fit for Precept, as a first substantial investment in California and we’re eager to build upon the outstanding reputation these brands have earned with consumers in their longstanding histories.”
Founded in 2003 by Andrew Browne and Dan Baty, privately held Precept owns a raft of wine brands alongside American whiskey Browne, AG Perino vermouth and House Wine, the “number one aluminium can wine brand”.
Elsewhere in California in recent weeks, Bronco Wine Co inherited responsibility for a raft of wine brands through its purchase of “sales and marketing organisation” Resurrection Brands.
