Polish food and drinks business Maspex has purchased Romania-based Purcari Wineries via a voluntary public takeover bid.
More than 71% of shares were subscribed by existing shareholders during the public offer, according to BRD – Groupe Société Générale, which acted as the intermediary. Following completion and regulatory approvals, Maspex will hold over 72% of Purcari’s share capital, including a 1.62% stake acquired prior to the offer.
The deal marks the Żubrówka vodka owner’s fourth acquisition in Romania and its 22nd overall. CEO Krzysztof Pawiński said the move aligns with the company’s regional expansion strategy and focus on established alcohol brands. “Purcari Wineries, as a leading producer of premium wines in Central and Eastern Europe, is an ideal addition to the Maspex Group’s portfolio,” he said. The fee was not immediately available.
Maspex Romania’s general manager Grzegorz Grabowski cited synergies across operations, strategy and markets, adding that “the current management has done an excellent job building one of the leading wine brands in the region”.
Purcari founder Victor Bostan welcomed the acquisition as a “natural step” in the winery’s international expansion. The transaction will be finalised following settlement and approval from relevant authorities.
The Wadowice-headquartered Purcari manages the wineries Château Purcari and Domeniile Cuza in Moldova, Crama Ceptura in Romania and Angel’s Estate in Bulgaria.
In June, Campari announced plans to sell its Cinzano vermouth and Frattina grappa and sparkling wine businesses to Caffo Group 1915 for EUR100m.
