‘The addition of these distinguished French estates marks the next natural step in Empson USA’s evolution.’

Wine importer Empson USA has added a clutch of French brands to its roster for the first time.

The Virginia-based business has penned deals with third-growth Margaux producer Château Kirwan, Cru Bourgeois du Médoc winery Château Malescasse, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé wine estate Château Franc Mayne, Burgundy’s Maison de la Chapelle and Champagne Gérin & Fils. The move marks the first time Empson, which traditionally focuses on Italian wines, will handle wines from France.

Empson will be given exclusive rights to import and “represent” Maison de la Chapelle in the market – Global Drinks Intel has enquired about the other wineries.

“While Italy remains the cornerstone of Empson USA’s portfolio … the company has steadily expanded its global reach over the years to include outstanding wineries from Argentina, Chile, New Zealand and the US,” the importer said. “The addition of these distinguished French estates marks the next natural step in Empson USA’s evolution.

“The expansion also reflects Empson USA’s confidence in the future of fine wine,” the company added. “At a time when the global wine industry continues to navigate changing consumer preferences and market dynamics, the company remains committed to investing in long-term partnerships with producers who share its belief that quality will continue to define the premium wine category for generations to come.”

In other US wine news, Constellation Brands reopened the Robert Mondavi Winery to visitors earlier this year. While closed, the California-based Oakville Estate underwent a three-year “multi-million-dollar” upgrade.

‘For distributors, the margins are thin, so you have to be nimble’ – Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits’ CEO and commercial sales president, Wayne and Mark Chaplin, speak to Global Drinks Intel
