Proximo Spirits has officially opened a new distillery for Bushmills Irish whiskey, more than doubling the brand's capacity at its facility in Northern Ireland.
The Jose Cuervo owner, which pledged to invest in Bushmills in late 2015, will see the whiskey's annual production capacity rise from 5m litres of pure alcohol [LPA] to 11m litres. The new facility, built adjacent to the 'Old Bushmills' distillery in the town of the same name at a cost of GBP37m [US$46m], commenced operations 12 months ago, with the official unveiling taking place this week.
