David Wilson, who assumed the role almost three years ago, will step away “in the coming months”, the Glenfiddich brand owner confirmed this week. When contacted by Global Drinks Intel, a spokesperson said that details about his replacement were not immediately available.

An earlier statement on the development said that Wilson will leave the company “to focus more time and energy on his next chapter including some exciting personal challenges and new business ventures”.

Wilson’s career in the beverage alcohol industry started with United Distillers back in 1996. After almost 15 years with Morrison Bowmore, he joined Beam Suntory in 2014 as the group’s GTR MD before switching to William Grant five years later. Two years as MD of ‘Quality Spirits International’ was followed by the move to his current position in the August of 2021.

“It has been a privilege to work with amazing people and brands over the last four decades,” he said in the statement. “I am looking forward to the next chapter and I will of course remain close and active in the spirits business in a number of ways.”

Late last year, William Grant recruited Søren Hagh, then president of Heineken’s ‘Europe’ division, as its next CEO. Hagh started with the group at the start of last month
