Montana Distillery has been forced to cease operations, blaming supply and equipment issues.

The business closed its doors on 15 March, with a statement on its website citing “equipment issues, building issues, supply issues” as well as “bogus legal issues”. The distiller filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last year, according to documents submitted to the US Bankruptcy Court in the District of Montana.

Founded in 2012 by Mark Hlebichuk and Sharie McDonald, Montana Distillery produced a range of spirits, including vodka, gin and whiskey. Its vodka line-up featured flavours such as bacon, cherry vanilla, pepper, cucumber and coffee.

“We haven’t hardly seen our families in years, and social outings with friends has been virtually non-existent,” the company wrote. “We look at this as a mini retirement as we move on to our next adventure.”

Yesterday (3 April), a plethora of wine and spirits trade organisations reacted to President Donald Trump’s latest tariff announcement with deep concern.
