Suntory Holdings has outlined two initiatives aimed at strengthening the resilience of its raw-materials sourcing in the face of climate and biodiversity pressures.

The group this week announced a regenerative-agriculture pilot in Colombia and a separate partnership with UK consultancy Biodiversify. The initiatives span both on-the-ground regenerative farming and corporate-level strategy design.

In Colombia’s Huila region, Suntory will work with Conservation International on a two-year pilot from 2026 involving 180 coffee farmers. It will test regenerative practices using organic fertilisers made from coffee pulp and husks, aiming to stabilise yields and cut greenhouse-gas emissions. The tie-up is part of a wider landscape-level programme addressing challenges from climate-related crop instability to water stress and ageing rural workforces.

Meanwhile, Biodiversify will support Suntory in developing a company-wide agricultural roadmap that identifies priority crops, regions and risks, forming part of a broader 2050 transition plan.

Masaaki Fujiwara, the company’s chief sustainability officer, said Suntory must “take action through a comprehensive, science-based strategy” to safeguard the natural systems its business depends on. Biodiversify’s co-founder Dr Samuel Sinclair added that the partnership reflects a growing recognition among global companies that “securing raw material supply in an era of climate instability requires a fundamental shift in how we approach nature”.

In June, Suntory Global Spirits was hit by a setback to its decarbonisation efforts in Scotland, where a plan to use hydrogen to power its Auchentoshan distillery was shelved.
