The company’s namesake vodka will go on sale this week on the airline in 5cl aluminium bottles. Sapling claims the move is “the first of its kind across the aviation industry. The units will be available to passengers in economy and premium onboard Virgin’s 38 flights.
The partnership has also committed to planting 20,000 trees this year.
“We have spent over a year working on this packaging innovation for Virgin, so to see it on board will be a milestone for us,” said Sapling co-founder Ivo Devereux. “We are always looking for new initiatives to help progress sustainability in the drinks industry [and] pioneered a 5-litre eco-refill scheme in the on-trade.”
Founded four years ago, London-based Sapling, which also produces a namesake gin, claims to be “the world’s first climate positive British-made spirits brand”. The company earned ‘B Corp’ status two years ago.
