  • 12-month sales to end of June increase 17% to EUR10.7bn (US$10.73bn)
  • Fiscal Q4 +14% at EUR2.29bn
  • Full-year up 18% in sales terms versus pre-pandemic fiscal 2019

Pernod Ricard has boasted of a record 12 months, despite its sales growth rate coming in behind that of spirits rival Diageo.

A month after its main competitor reported a 21.4% top-line increase from the 12 months to the end of June, Pernod has today announced a rise in sales of 17% from the same period. Of note for the group, however, was the “symbolic milestone” of breaking the EUR10bn barrier in 12-month sales for the first time.

The record sales were aided by price increases in the mid-single-digit range "across all markets". Rum brand Havana Club was the main beneficiary of the move in the year: Volumes for the Cuban rum grew 5% while sales leapt by 20%.

Elsewhere, Irish whiskey Jameson achieved volumes of 10m nine-litre cases for the first time, delivering its fastest growth rate in 30 years, the company said.

Impressive performances were also recorded by the Beefeater, Royal Salute and Perrier-Jouet brands, all of which were up in sales terms by a third or more. Cognac brand Martell, however, battled against a strong showing in the prior year, while localised COVID-related restrictions affected sales in China between March and May.

All three reporting regions were up in the year with a by-market breakdown showing the US growing by 8%, China by 5% and India by just over a quarter (26%).

Looking forward, Pernod retained its sales forecast of between +4% and +7% - "aiming for the upper end of the range" - per year for fiscal 2023 to 2025. Organic growth and "value-creating M&A" continue as part of the group's strategy, along with a focus on pricing.
