Next Century Spirits today (4 July) announced the acquisition of Chicken Cock Whiskey and other “brand assets” from Grain & Barrel Spirits.
The deal, which marks Next Century Spirits’ first foray into Kentucky, includes four Grain & Barrel brands: Chicken Cock Whiskey (below), Dixie Southern Vodka, Elvis Whiskey and whiskey mark E.G. Booz. Next Century Spirits will also take control of two Circa 1856 tasting-room destinations in Kentucky – the Chicken Cock brand’s visitor centre in Bardstown and a ‘sipping room’ and speakeasy in Louisville.
Under the agreement, Grain & Barrel founder-CEO Matti Anttila will join the board of Next Century Spirits, “allowing him to continue guiding Chicken Cock’s growth”. Investor Damon DeSantis will also join the board.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
North Carolina-headquartered Next Century Spirits’ portfolio also includes Blue Chair Bay Rum, Nue Vodka, Pocho Fino Tequila, Bear Fight American Whiskey, Caddy Cocktails, Numbskull Whiskey, Creek Water American Whiskey, Calamity Gin and Henderson Whiskey.
“Grain & Barrel built something real here with the Chicken Cock Whiskey brand: exceptional quality, deep history, and a relatable story,” said Next Century Spirits CEO Anthony Moniello. “We’re betting on a brand that stands out in a category where distinctive, authentic stories are winning.”
