E&J Gallo Winery has bought into the Tequila Komos brand with a view to taking on the portfolio’s distribution in the US.
The “strategic investment”, specific details of which were not disclosed, has been conducted through the wine giant’s Spirit of Gallo division. Brand owner Casa Komos Brands Group will hand distribution responsibilities for the US to Gallo with immediate effect.
Along with the group’s Camarena Tequila, Komos will sit alongside the Fonseca family’s Don Fulano brand in the spirits unit’s Tequila portfolio.
The Komos range includes Añejo Cristalino, Reposado Rosa and Extra Añejo expressions.
Late last month, Jose Cuervo owner Cuervo posted a 22.2% jump in six-month sales to the end of June, but noted its top-line in the US & Canada was flat for the second quarter.
