Crealis, a global leader in closure solutions for wines and spirits, announces the release of its first sustainability report for 2023. Highlighting significant progress in Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) matters, the group reaffirms its commitment to playing a key role in the transition towards more sustainable practices within its industry.

Aware of the environmental impact of its activities, Crealis takes a major step forward in its climate transition by setting emission reduction targets aligned with scientific recommendations and validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

By 2030, Crealis commits to:

  • Reducing absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 42% for Scopes 1 and 2, compared to the 2022 baseline year, and
  • Reducing absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 25% for Scope 3 over the same period.

These ambitious targets underscore our determination to address global climate challenges and contribute to the 1.5°C trajectory outlined in the Paris Agreement and the recommendations of the IPCC

2023 ESG Highlights

Promoting Circular Economy and Sustainable Design

As part of its circularity approach, Crealis has been committed for several years to recycling industrial waste and incorporating recycled raw materials into its products. Already advanced in waste management, 93% of post-industrial waste from the group’s European entities is sent to recycling partners. For instance, the French entity Sparflex reintegrates polyethylene scraps into the production cycle, while in Italy, Enoplastic has implemented a solvent recovery plant that allows solvents to be reused indefinitely, significantly reducing waste.

Similarly in Spain at Rivercap, 100% of non-coloured tin scraps from production are reused, ensuring minimal waste and optimal resource utilisation. In the US, Maverick has embraced renewable energy by installing solar panels, generating sustainable electricity to power its production.

Additionally, Crealis has developed the Green Tech range, offering solutions made from recycled, bio-based, and compostable materials. By incorporating materials such as recycled polyethylene, Crealis reduces the use of virgin resources and optimises industrial waste management. R-Derma, a polylaminate material for foils and capsules, includes 60% recycled polyethylene.

A Culture of Inclusion and Talent Development

With nearly 1,500 employees, Crealis values diversity and promotes inclusion across all its sites. In 2023, 27% of managerial positions were held by women, and numerous development programs have strengthened internal skills. The group is also committed to ensuring pay equity and professional growth for its teams while maintaining a safe and supportive work environment.

In line with this commitment, we furthered our efforts to promote gender equality by engaging our employees during International Women’s Rights Day, highlighting the importance of respect, equality, and solidarity both within the workplace and in society at large.

Commitment to Local Initiatives

Crealis actively participates in initiatives within its communities by supporting local projects aligned with its values. The group collaborates with schools and associations and raises consumer awareness about the importance of recycling and waste management. For example, the group’s companies organized a major waste collection effort during World Cleanup Day to encourage sorting practices.

Another impactful action highlighting the group’s commitment is the partnership established by SUPERCAP with a local Italian supermarket to introduce a Green Money Eco-Compactor. This innovative machine encourages people to sort and recycle their PET bottles. By simply depositing bottles – separating the bottle body from the cap – users receive discount vouchers redeemable at the supermarket.

In a similar spirit, PEDI has chosen to replace traditional customers Christmas gifts with a meaningful environmental contribution: planting trees through the platform Treedom. This effort supports biodiversity conservation and reinforces the group’s dedication to a greener future.

” I am proud to present our first sustainability report, marking a significant milestone in our journey as a global leader in closure solutions for wines, spirits, olive oil and more,” said CEO Michele Moglia. “Despite challenges such as inflation, excessive stock levels, and declining wine consumption, Crealis has demonstrated resilience. We have adapted to new opportunities while maintaining our focus on sustainability, innovation and quality.

“I express my gratitude to our employees worldwide for their dedication. Together, we ensure that Crealis is well-positioned to lead the global closure market toward a sustainable future.”
