Soft drinks brand Topo Chico is set to move beyond its hard seltzer extension to venture into spirits-based RTDs in the US.

Molson Coors Beverage Co, which handles Topo Chico’s hard seltzers in the US for brand owner The Coca-Cola Co, has teased “a line of spirit-based, ready-to-drink cocktails inspired by … some of America’s most beloved Tequila and vodka-based beverages”. Set to roll out to 20 states next year, Topo Chico Spirited will be made using spirits including “premium” Tequila, according to Molson Coors.

Further details were not disclosed.

“Taking inspiration from the popular cocktails made in bars and restaurants today, Topo Chico Spirited will bring something completely different to our aisle,” said Molson Coors’ VP of ‘next generation beverages’, David Coors. “We believe Topo Chico Spirited will shake up the canned cocktail space with unparalleled flavours … .”

The company, which has worked in recent years to expand outside of its core beer portfolio, secured an exclusive arrangement with Coca-Cola two years ago to produce, distribute and market Topo Chico Hard Seltzer in the US. The partnership was strengthened in January by Simply Spiked Lemonade, a 5% ABV RTD based around Coca-Cola’s Simply juice brand.

In results for the first six months of this year, announced last month, Molson Coors posted an 8% year-on-year rise in sales.
