Italian closure producer Supercap has undertaken a shopping spree in Portugal, adding three Porto-based companies to its footprint.

Woodcap Industria de Capsulas de Madeira, Manuel Firinho & Filhos and Jesus Couto & Pereira all operate out of the Santa Maria de Feira municipality, about 25km south of Porto. According to Supercap, which is part of the larger Crealis Group, Woodcap deals in “wooden capsules for the beverage industry”, with the latter pair producing cork stoppers.

Combined, the three businesses are expected to add around EUR25m [US$27m] in annual sales to Supercap’s operations, resulting in a projected EUR100m+ turnover total for the company this year.

The additions bring Portugal into play for Supercap, with the three purchases joining its two production facilities in Italy and in Guadalajara, Mexico. The acquisitions, all for undisclosed sums, are expected to complete by the end of March.

Crealis was formed last year as a result of the merger of Supercap and Corchomex into the Enoplastic and Sparflex entity. The group also has sites in the US, Australia and New Zealand.
