Suntory Global Spirits has commenced operations at its standalone commercial business in the UK.
The division, named Suntory Global Spirits UK, is now directly responsible for the sales, marketing and distribution of the group’s full portfolio in the UK. The unit will be led by Nick Temperley (below) as MD.
The launch follows SGS’s announcement in March 2024 that it would establish its own subsidiary in the UK following the end of its longstanding distribution agreement with Edrington. The Maker’s Mark brand owner’s UK presence already includes ownership of scotch whisky distilleries Laphroaig, Bowmore, Ardmore, Auchentoshan, Glen Garioch and Ardray, as well as Sipsmith gin in London.
“The UK is a dynamic, sophisticated and competitive market,” Temperley said. “We see significant growth opportunities within the categories where we are strongest, particularly in Japanese spirits, scotch and American whiskey. We … are looking forward to working in partnership with retailers and hospitality to bring great drinks … to the UK market.”
Suntory Global Spirits UK will have a team in its central London head office, with additional staff in Scotland and across the country.
