Premium Port producer Symington Family Estates has created Rebel Port Club, a pop-up bar in downtown Porto, in an effort to target younger consumers.
Billed as “not your grandfather’s Port club”, the venue aims to challenge people to drink Port differently, including a range of Port cocktails and “originaly and surprising” food matches.
Rebel Port Club was originally a Portugal-inspired speakeasy that opened in London in December 2021 – a joint venture between Graham’s, Dow’s and Cockburn’s owner Symington Family Estates and the Chiltern Street Deli.
Now the concept has been revived in a chapel in the garden of LOT [Labels of Tomorrow] on Rua de José Falcão in Porto, a store that showcases local and independent lifestyle brands.
As well as offering cocktails and food pairings, the new venue will host evening events including open-air cinema, bingo and Port cocktail workshops. It is open now until late October.
“Port used to have some colourful associations which were rooted in how and where it was traditionally drunk – particularly in private members’ clubs,” said Charlotte Symington, Symington Family Estates senior marketing manager.
“Rebel Port Club takes this association and flips it on its head. Our objective is to create a different and welcoming environment for people to explore the diversity of Port.”
