The “strategic investment” by Spirit of Gallo, announced last week, sees the group take on US importation responsibilities for the gin’s two-strong portfolio. While neither the size nor the value of the stake purchase were disclosed, Gallo said the move is expected to “capitalise on Condesa Gin’s home market success, where it has become the fastest-growing super-premium gin in Mexico”.
The addition of the brand, which comprises the Clásica and Prickly Pear & Orange Blossom expressions, represents Gallo’s entry into the higher-end segment of the gin category.
“The gin category is evolving, as consumers trade up to premium brands from interesting places with compelling stories,” said Spirit of Gallo GM Britt West. “We know Condesa will appeal to consumers who want a truly unique … experience, and we look forward to working with the founders and ownership team to help Condesa reach its full potential.”
Produced in Mexico City, the expressions carry an SRP in the US of US$39.99 per 75cl bottle.
In February, Gallo revised its corporate name and logo, dropping the historical reference to its wine origins. The Spirit of Gallo division handles the group’s New Amsterdam vodka and E&J Brandy brands and partnered with South Korea’s Lotte Chilsung Beverage Co in December for three of its soju marks.
