Constellation Brands is closing a winemaking facility in California to “optimise [its] operations footprint”, the group has confirmed.

The Quarry Lake site in Sonoma previously produced wine for The Prisoner Wine Co and Robert Mondavi labels, but a spokesperson told Global Drinks Intel it has “most recently only been used for barrel storage”. The closure will result in seven job losses.

The development follows the sale last year of a clutch of wine brands to California-based The Wine Group – including Woodbridge, Meiomi, Robert Mondavi Private Selection, Cook’s, SIMI and J Rogét.

“Following our 2025 divestiture of a number of mainstream wine brands, we’re taking necessary steps to optimise our operations footprint to support our restructured portfolio of higher-end brands,” the spokesperson said.

In the group’s latest results, reported last month, sales from combined wine & spirits operations – not including figures from the now-Sazerac Co-owned Svedka vodka brand and the marks sold to The Wine Group – fell by 6% in the fourth quarter and by 14% in the fiscal full year.
