Casa Lumbre has revealed its global intentions for the Contraluz mezcal brand, as the cristalino iteration prepares for a US launch.
Contraluz Cristalino, which is positioned as an “ultra-premium” proposition, carries an SRP of US$59.99 per 750ml bottle. Available from this month in markets including Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, New Mexico, New York and Texas, the mezcal’s coverage will be extended beyond Mexico and the US next year.
According to the brand owner, the expression is “the first application of the cristalino process … in the mezcal category”.
Casa Lumbre’s website features fellow mezcal brand Montelobos as well as chile-based liqueur Ancho Reyes in its portfolio. In late 2019, Campari Group acquired majority stakes in both brands for a combined US$35.7m. Ojo de Tigre mezcal, which also appears on the Casa Lumbre site, has been part-owned by Pernod Ricard since July 2020.
