Carlsberg has confirmed to Global Drinks Intel its intention to proceed with an initial public offering for its division in India.

The plan to list, which was formally lodged with stock exchange authorities in the country yesterday (1 July), comes five months after the multinational said it was considering an IPO. When contacted by Global Drinks Intel, a spokesperson for Carlsberg provided a short statement and declined to comment further as “the filing is confidential”.

“Carlsberg India Limited has submitted a confidential Pre-Filed Draft Red Herring Prospectus to the Securities & Exchange Board of India on 1 July 2026,” the statement reads. “The progress and timing of the potential IPO will depend on a number of factors, including the regulatory review and approvals, as well as prevailing market conditions.”

Carlsberg India commenced operations in the country 20 years ago through South Asia Breweries, a joint venture with Nepal-based Khetan Group. Growing to a brewing footprint of seven facilities across the country, and becoming – according to the company – “the number three player in the Indian beer market within six years of operations”, the division came under Carlberg’s full control in August 2024. The group bought out partner – and Khetan-owned – CSAPL (Singapore) Holdings for US$744m, with CEO Jacob Aarup-Andersen saying at the time that “we can now accelerate investments to capture the long-term growth opportunities in this exciting beer market”.

As well as the group’s international portfolio, which includes brand Carlsberg, Tuborg and 1664 Blanc, India is also home to market-specific extensions Carlsberg Elephant and Tuborg Classic with Scotch Malts. The division’s head office is in Haryana with a registered office recorded in New Delhi.
