Rum agricole specialist Spiribam has announced plans to open its wholly-owned distribution operations in the UK from February 2022. It takes over the distribution from Emporia Brands, which has handled the brand for the past 15 years.

“The UK has always been a priority for Spiribam. The UK is one of the most dynamic spirits markets and the third-largest premium rum market in the world, after the US and France, where Spiribam has had its own distribution companies respectively created in 2006 and 2005,” said Gregoire Gueden, managing director of Spiribam.

Spiribam, the spirits division of Groupe Bernard Hayot (GBH), a family-owned international group headquartered in Martinique, has enjoyed consistent double-digit sales growth across its export markets. The company is benefiting from the growing popularity of aged agricole rums, an area that it pioneered.

Spiribam UK will distribute Martinique’s Rhum Clément, Bounty Rum, Chairman’s Reserve Rum and Admiral Rodney Rum, produced by Saint Lucia Distillers, as well as the signatures of Mauritius, Arcane and Beach House Spiced.

Spiribam, the maker of Rhum Clément, has been a leader in premiumising the rum agricole sector

The company also announced that it would be strengthening its brand portfolio with investments to further develop the sales and brand awareness of each its brands, while also laying the groundwork for future brand acquisitions.

Gueden added: “This new step for Spiribam was quite logical and appears very promising. We are very optimistic with regards to the potential of our brands in the UK as most of them already beneficiate from a strong established footprint and great brand recognition.”

Matthieu de Lassus, Spiribam’s international sales and marketing director, has been appointed CEO of Spiribam UK.
