Suntory Oceania, the AUD3bn (US$2bn) venture between Suntory Global Spirits and Frucor Suntory, has named Daisuke Minato as its CEO.

Minato (above, left) will assume the leadership position from the beginning of April, replacing Darren Fullerton who announced his retirement late last year. Previously, Minato was the chief strategy & finance officer of Suntory Beverage & Food International.

The incoming CEO will join MD Mark Hill (above, right) to lead the new business. Meanwhile, Fullerton is set to stay on as a strategic advisor when the venture commences operations.

Billed as the region’s fourth-largest beverage group, Suntory Oceania is due to become operational in Australia this July, and in New Zealand from the beginning of 2026. Initially announced in mid-2023, its creation marked the end of Suntory Global Spirits’ (then Beam Suntory) long-term partnership with Coca-Cola Europacific Partners.

The tie-up will cover functions including manufacturing, sales and distribution for a combined portfolio of 40 brands, including Jim Beam and Maker’s Mark as well as the Hibiki and Canadian Club whiskies. As well as premium spirits and RTDs, the business will also be responsible for a range of non-alcoholic drinks brands.

Earlier this month, Suntory, the parent company of Suntory Global Spirits, posted a 1% lift in sales from its combined alcohol businesses for the 12 months of last year.
